IP Weatherproof Ratings

We have many customers that ask us questions as:

• What is the correct IP rating for my application?
• Can an indoor item be used for an outdoor application?
• Can I use any light fitting in my bathroom?

The answer is simple ... every lighting item is assigned an IP rating to match it's maximum weather affected tolerance. Here is one example:

• We have an electrical enclosure item with an IP03 rating.
• IP means Ingress Protection, and
• "0" describes the level of protection from solid objects, and
• "3" describes the level of protection from liquids.

Therefore, this IP03 item is definately suitable for some outdoor applications.

The myth of a minimum IP44 rating for all outdoor lights has been busted!
